Abstract Flower Bouquet, Contemporary Home Wall Decor, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 8x10"

I wanted to create a soft, soothing floral still life. Painted on .75" deep canvas, with painted sides. Finished with a light spray of varnish to enhance and protect the colors.

I worked with both brush and palette knife, but 90% of it is the knife.

Hope you enjoy it!

Hydrangea Floral Knife Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting

SOLD

I picked these hydrangea from my garden and was compelled to paint them.  Hydrangea are probably my very favorite flowers and I love the summer months when my home is surrounded with their massive blooms.

I wanted to keep the painting as simple as the pitcher and mug.

For me, keeping it simple usually means "palette knife".

This original painting is sold, but it can be ordered as a giclee print on canvas, paper or wood.  You can find it on my Etsy link below.

Enjoy your day!

Small Rose Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "A Rose by Any other Name", 6x8" Oil

This is my third in a series of rose studies, worked with a palette knife.  I enjoy working with a knife to get the texture and feel I am trying to convey to the viewer.

The texture of the knife makes me want to reach out and touch the painting, a big no no in galleries and museums, but a feeling I would like to convey to the viewer.

I am trying to bring a larger variety of marks to my palette knife paintings to give them more interest and variety.  I am finding it is hard to break old habits.  To me, the joy of painting, and the frustration of painting, come from a constant effort to improve.

Have a wonderful day!

Rose Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8 Knife Oil Painting, Rose still life

I am trying to improve my knife techniques and came up with this piece last week.

I was slinging paint with my knife and kept it free and clean....so much fun!  I wanted to keep it loose and informal.

I like to show my small paintings in a black frame.  I think it shows most paintings well and really help the colors to pop.  Frames should accentuate the painting, but distract from it.

You may remember this companion piece, that I posted a few days ago.

Have a great day, and thanks for reading my blog.
