Blue Floral Palette Knife Painting, Small Oil Painting, Textured Art, Daily Painting,

Today I painted a flower.

SOLD

I have been struggling with my painting, for a full year now.  I have never been able to establish a routine in the studio, since we packed our bags, and moved to the mountains.  I thought I was over painting.  I found no joy in it.  In fact, everything I struggled to paint, seemed more like a duty and I found it frustrating.

But now, we have been back at the beach for three months.  It took awhile. First the holidays got in the way, but after the first of the year, I started to regain my love of spending my days in the studio.

Maybe it was the inspiration of the long walks on the beach, or maybe  it was being back with my art buddies again.  Whatever..........I am thrilled and anxious to smear paint across canvas again!

It is such a JOY!!!

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Colorado Wildflowers, Flower Painting, 8x10x1.5" Oil, Colorado Kansas Line

Years ago, I lived in both Colorado and Kansas, but I don't remember these wildflowers that I found growing everywhere, when I visited there last year.

They must have been there, but a visit is different than a young woman, raising a family and working full time.

Sorry for the glare on this image.

I added great swirls of texture to the canvas before painting, trying to capture the feel of  flowers swaying in the breeze.

Can you tell I was facing east when I took this shot?  In Colorado (at least where I was) when you face west you see the Rockies, when you face east, you see the prairie.

Thanks for reading my blog today.....and keep painting!!

Small Floral Still Life. Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Flower Painting, 9x12x.75" Oil

Still playing catch up!  In retrospect, it was probably not a good idea to be out of state three months, attend a 4 day workshop and accept almost 20 commissions just weeks before the holidays.

So although I was painting every day, I struggled to find new works that I could show on my blog at that time.

I did manage to do this one:

I really enjoyed painting something that I wanted to paint, and I think it shows.  Free and easy strokes and a touch of whimsy.

Time to take a deep breath and decide just what is important and what it not.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Small Flower Painting, Coneflower Painting, Echinacea Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, SOLD

One of my favorite flowers to paint, are coneflowers (echinacea).  I think they have so much personality.

SOLD

This time, I used a palette knife, to add interest and dimension.

I always try to keep a black frame around, as I think they really help the painting to pop!

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Blue Paintings

I like to post on facebook, as I am sure many of you do too.  I started a group called "Online Artists" to give self-representing artists another place to post their work.  Every week I "suggest" a theme for the artists to follow, although it is not mandatory by any means.  A few times, the theme has been a specific color, which I really enjoyed.  So today, I decided to post "blue" paintings for you here.

Swirls
8x10x.75"
I really had fun with this textured piece!

Geisha
6x8" canvas panel

What is it about oriental culture that is so fascinating?

Blue Lagoon
6x8" on canvas panel
A view of the intracoastal waterway in Grant Florida.  This is close to my home.

Mountain Farm
8x10" canvas panel
A view of our neighbor's farm in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina.  One of the most beautiful scenes on earth, I have painted this farm dozens of times.

Misty Morning
12x12x1.5" canvas
The mountains are absolutely gorgeous when the sun comes up and burns off the morning mist.

A Touch of Blue
6x8" on canvas panel
A Florida sky.  The coastal areas are often filled with fluffy clouds as the afternoon hot air from the west collides with the cool sea breezes from the east.

Candlestick with Palm Shadows
4x12x1.5" canvas

I love to set objects on my windowsill in front of these cool shadows from a palm tree.

Antique Bottles
8x10 canvas panel
 From my antique bottle collection.

Seascape with sunset
11x14x1.5" canvas

I had to put a seascape in here somewhere!

Well, that's it for celebrating blue today!  I hope you will join us on facebook.  Just go to your account and search for Online Artists.  We would love to have you join in the fun.

I hope you have BLUE skies today.

Thank you for reading my blog.

Daily Painting, Floral Art, Small Oil Painting, Sunflower Painting, "SunnyFlowers" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil

Don't you just love sun flowers?  What could be unlikable about a giant flower, one you have to look up to?  Sunny, bright and full of energy with their big brown eyes and bobbing heads....they always make me happy.

I wanted to do  a tribute to them, something free and full of movement.  I worked with my palette knife and tried to pop the color.  I left plenty of texture because I want this painting to be touched.

I enjoy my work in simple black frames.  A black frame is always complimentary, it showcases the painting so well.

Thanks for viewing my art today.

Floral Still Life on Linen, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Mary's Vase" 9x12" Oil

I did this painting a few weeks ago with my paint group, Pieces of Eight.  Mary brought in a set up of fresh flowers and her favorite vase.

I wanted to keep it free and loose, so I started painting with both and palette knife and a brush.  I was painting on a linen covered panel, and left much of the background unpainted for added texture and interest.

I have never seen a mum in this colors before, white petals and a purpley blue center.  This is where the knife action came in.

Thank you Mary, for bring these beautiful fresh flowers and thank you to all who are reading my blog today.

Garden Painting, Daily Painting, Small OilPainting "Gardens at Hyde Park" 6x8" Oil

Another Wednesday....and another WILD AND WACKY SALE!  This week I am featuring another of my favorites.  I visited London a few years ago and this painting is a result of that trip.....a beautiful English garden and cottage in Hyde Park.  The painting originally was priced at $95.95, is currently on sale at $75.00, but when you purchase from the "Purchase here" link below the image, I will send you back $10.00!  Just note the words "WILD AND WACKY" on the order.

$75
We have all heard about the beautiful English countryside and the gorgeous gardens that are found there.  The cool and moist sea air bring perfect growing conditions to the British isle.  This garden in Hyde Park was a shining example.  May of the flowers were much taller than I.  The cottage was actually some type of Park Headquarters, but was equally charming on the outside.  It was truly a treat to stumble onto this diamond.

Cheerio!

Original Red Hibiscus Oil Painting, Floral Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8"

One of the joys  of living in Florida are the almost year round flowers in our landscapes.  Hibiscus is one of the most used here, and with good reason.  They are easy to grow, beautiful and available in many colors and one of the first to bloom in the spring and late in the winter season.

This one is a study in reds.  Elio Camacho states that red is the most difficult color to paint.  When you can paint a "red" painting, you have arrived (in the art world).

This does not qualify as a "red" painting in my mind.  A "red" study usually has several red objects, each with it's own shades of red.

Still, this is good practice.

Elio likes to present his more advanced students with set ups that are all yellow, or blue, or green etc.  It is only the bravest who attempt the dreaded "all red" set up.

I have been on quite a flower painting jag lately, and still have more to come.  I spent the month of April in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and was inspired by the beautiful show from Mother Nature.  Flowers were everywhere, especially the trees and bushes.

Now that I am home again, I cannot stop looking at my stash of photos and painting flowers every day.

Yesterday, I went to Bok tower, here in Florida, with my paint buddies, and got inspired all over again.  Miles of beautiful gardens!
