Hydrangea Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Palette Knife Painting, 6x8" on canvas panel

You have heard of the last rose of summer.....this is the last hydrangea of summer.  The nights were getting chilly in the mountains, so I picked these blooms, from my garden, and painted away.

Floral Still Life on Linen, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Mary's Vase" 9x12" Oil

I did this painting a few weeks ago with my paint group, Pieces of Eight.  Mary brought in a set up of fresh flowers and her favorite vase.

I wanted to keep it free and loose, so I started painting with both and palette knife and a brush.  I was painting on a linen covered panel, and left much of the background unpainted for added texture and interest.

I was pleased with this one.

Roses have always been difficult for me.  This time I tried to channel Elio.  I was determined not to describe each petal,  I did my best to remember the softness and translucency of a rose petal.  I wanted to pop the colors, but, not too much.  Finally, I made myself stop!

Yes, I like this one.....and I hope you do too.

Trying hard to put into practice the techniques Elio Camacho tries to push into my head.  Brushwork, color relations, composition, the bride!  Not sure if I was successful, but, there is always tomorrow!

Thanks for viewing my blog today.

Painting on sale, Floral still life, daily painting, small oil painting, "Spring Flowers" by Carol Schiff, 8x10 Oil SOLD

An oldie, but a goodie!

SOLD

Tip for artists:  Instead of purchasing art books, I purchase paintings from my favorite artists.  I find it much more helpful for me to study technique and brushwork from an actual example instead of a book.  I have the added benefit of owning original artwork which I enjoy daily in my home.

Have a great day and take time to smell the roses.
