Playing with Alcohol Inks, Abstract Floral, Daily Painting, Flower art

This is what an oil painter does, when she is in a slump!

6x8"

For reasons that are too boring to talk about, I have found myself in an oil painting slump.

When I came to Florida, for three months this winter, I purposely left my oil painting supplies at home.  I brought pastels, watercolors, alcohol inks, etc.  My plan was to force myself to paint with media that was unfamiliar and  awaken my creative juices.  When I was back in the swing of things, I would once again turn to my oils.

Soooo, I created this little piece, for a challenge.  The challenge was to use metallic colored pencils in a composition.  The pencils are not saturated colors and the metallic aspect of them is not strong, so I decided to do a mixed media piece.

This is a combination of the pencils, alcohol inks, and a black sharpie pen.  The hash marks are from the metallic pencils.  The sharpie, should have been a wider tip, but I used what I had.

I found it to be a frustrating and fascinating project.  Successful?  Maybe not.  But it got me back in the art mode, and I plan to work from here.  I already caught myself thinking "I wish I had my oils here", so perhaps my little plot it working.  In any case, I am happy I spent a few hours experimenting.

Hydrangea Floral Knife Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting

SOLD

I picked these hydrangea from my garden and was compelled to paint them.  Hydrangea are probably my very favorite flowers and I love the summer months when my home is surrounded with their massive blooms.

I wanted to keep the painting as simple as the pitcher and mug.

For me, keeping it simple usually means "palette knife".

This original painting is sold, but it can be ordered as a giclee print on canvas, paper or wood.  You can find it on my Etsy link below.

Enjoy your day!

Pink Rose for You, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Giclee Print on Canvas or Paper

Yes, yes, yes......I am still painting flowers.  I have been on quite a flower jag lately.

I was pleased with this one.

SOLD

Roses have always been difficult for me.  This time I tried to channel Elio.  I was determined not to describe each petal,  I did my best to remember the softness and translucency of a rose petal.  I wanted to pop the colors, but, not too much.  Finally, I made myself stop!

Yes, I like this one.....and I hope you do too.

This painting is sold, but it can be yours as a giclee print on canvas.  Contact me for pricing and sizes available.

White Rose and Birthday Wishes, Flower Painting, Floral Still Life, 6x8" Oil on Canvas, SOLD

Birthday Flowers!!

SOLD
Way back in December, my son and his wife sent me some beautiful flowers for my birthday.  The first thing I did was photograph them.  Then I forgot about the photos!

I finally found them last week, and decided to try my hand at one.  I am very intimidated  by flowers.  They seem so complex and I rarely meet that sweet spot between too little or too much detail.  I am not so sure about this one, but I do like the colors.

Try, try and try again!

Violet Painting, Small Oil Painting, Potted Plant Art, Daily Painting, SOLD

This week I was thinking flowers, so I decided to offer this little African Violet painting.

SOLD
I love the purples, pinks and blues and yes, even the blue greens, in this daily painting.  All my favorite colors!

Tip for artists:  Instead of purchasing art books, I purchase paintings from my favorite artists.  I find it much more helpful for me to study technique and brushwork from an actual example instead of a book.  I have the added benefit of owning original artwork which I enjoy daily in my home.

Hope you like my bargain of the day!  This offer expires Friday, Oct. 17th at 12:01 a.m.

Rose Painting, Small Oil Painting, Pink Flower Art, Daily Painter, 6x8" Oil Painting

Everybody loves roses.  I find them difficult to grow, and to paint.

Purchase here

I used both a brush and palette knife on this piece.  I particularly paid attention to edges.

They say less is more, so I tried to do less and keep it fresh.
